When the you plug a U3 USB thumbdrive in your Mac, it mounts a (useless to the Mac) simulated CD-ROM with the U3 software. When ejecting the USB drive, you have to remember to eject the CD-ROM as well. In 10.5, Apple noticed that, and just never mounts the (useless to OSX) virtual CD-ROM drive. Mmmm, that gives me the warm fuzzies.
