SoundCurtain is for GSD. Full stop.
This is a fantastic iPhone app for getting into a ‘bubble’ and getting focused when there’s a lot going on around you. I’m finding it much better than listening to tunes because I’m soooo tired of my tunes, and while Pandora is great it’ll wander off into long stretches of music that don’t really help with concentration. Also, SoundCurtain doesn’t leave you ‘numb’ after a while like noise canceling headphones can.
Of the three sound modes (Noise, Rain, Harmonic), rain is the best for blocking out external noise. Noise is pretty good, but louder external sounds do creep in from time to time. Harmonic is a cool, trippy soundtrack, although since it’s more musical it has internal pauses from time to time when you can definitely hear what’s going on around you.
I’m using SoundCurtain along with my Getting Sh-t Done system (utilware.com/gsd3.html) to block out all the distractions, focus on what needs to get done, and then crank away on it. Great addition to the toolbox.
SoundCurtain is by FutureAcoustic, and is available on iTunes.

Slipping over to the dark side
Someone recently gave me one of these little Moleskines. Up until recently I had been a long-time fan of the large Miquelrius grid-ruled tomes, but I was getting tired of carrying around such a large book - and the paper quality had gone way down on the most recent batch that I bought.
And - despite my grumblings on Getting Sh-t Done, it’s a pretty nice little book. I’m especially liking that I don’t get bleed-through from one page to the next, the grid spacing is good, and the cover has a nice texture to it. I do, however, miss the soft cover of the Miquelrius. But I’m beginning to warm up to it. We’ll see.
Got up early to strategize/plan while (our slice of) the world is still quiet; watching the sun come up as I scribble in my GSD book
