Field notes: Bogotá

Quite excited to be in Bogotá Colombia.  This city is absolutely beautiful.  From my vantage point (admittedly a narrow strip from the airport to the hotel, and then a walking-distance circle around the hotel), it´s quite impressive.  The streets are clean, although not antiseptic clean.  Everything is super green, from the medians on the main thoroughfares (like the 11) to the local park.  And to top it off, the architecture is impressive as well - a nice combination of brick texturing, large glass windows, and modern (but not over-modern) flourishes.  Definitely a sense of a progressive city, and can´t wait to check it out later this week.

In the meanwhile, some great drawings from a Bogotá-based artist on Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/adalberto_camperos/ … hoping to connect up with him this weekend.

Stay tuned here on utilware.com for photos later this week.

SoundCurtain is for GSD. Full stop.

This is a fantastic iPhone app for getting into a ‘bubble’ and getting focused when there’s a lot going on around you.  I’m finding it much better than listening to tunes because I’m soooo tired of my tunes, and while Pandora is great it’ll wander off into long stretches of music that don’t really help with concentration.  Also, SoundCurtain doesn’t leave you ‘numb’ after a while like noise canceling headphones can.

Of the three sound modes (Noise, Rain, Harmonic), rain is the best for blocking out external noise.  Noise is pretty good, but louder external sounds do creep in from time to time.  Harmonic is a cool, trippy soundtrack, although since it’s more musical it has internal pauses from time to time when you can definitely hear what’s going on around you.

I’m using SoundCurtain along with my Getting Sh-t Done system (utilware.com/gsd3.html) to block out all the distractions, focus on what needs to get done, and then crank away on it.  Great addition to the toolbox.

SoundCurtain is by FutureAcoustic, and is available on iTunes.

Just ran across this.  Sweet.

1PX CLOCK for the iphone shows 1 pixel for each second of the day. Startling how quickly time seems to pass at the micro level, but how slowly it goes at the macro level.

Terminator Salvation looks like a hell of a ride
Totally enjoying the giant mech hand reaching through the roof of the building and snagging people as they run.  Makes me want to live in 2018 with a big heavy weapon at my side and a fist full of vinegar.
But, dude, how is it that movie microsites are so universally hard to use? I might just have to start pointing the mothership at Hollywood.
