Driving traffic through being memorable
I went to the movies today (to see the sequel to Crank, which was excellent), and before the trailers they had a long series of ‘behind the scenes’ shorts on upcoming movies, interviews with actors, and related material. It was engaging, actually, and might even draw me into the theater a bit early again next time.
At the end of the shorts, they showed a brief clip that said something along the lines of ‘you enjoyed this in the theater, now enjoy it at home’, after which they provided the URL: ncm.com.
That’s it, ncm.com.
There was absolutely nothing memorable about the URL; it didn’t mean anything in and of itself, didn’t relate to what we had been seeing, and was only shown for 10 seconds at most. The only reason I remembered it was that I pecked it into my iPhone in order to later write this.
They’d really benefit from something like nextintheaters.com (still available).
