Remembering Twitter
Suddenly all nostalgic for when Twitter was for, well, telling people what you were up to. Used to get a real kick out of semi-unconsciously tapping into the stream of what my friends and acquaintances were up to around the globe - maybe it was the sunrise in Taiwan, or a botched meeting in Mexico City, or just (gasp) what they were having for breakfast.
It reminds me of my early days on what...

Maybe I'm just being too demanding
So to (a) stay current with the latest versions of Microsoft Office, and (b) hopefully squash a few lingering bugs in my older Mac version, I recently coughed up the appropriate squishy organ and bought the freshest Microsoft Office for the Mac platform. Fortunately, it does appear to have fixed at least one of the lingering bugs.
But it has dutifully installed a brand new bug.
With this latest...

Hey, am I the only guy that actually read that list of 25 items? Because many of those are actually multiple items, especially number 7:
Earbuds + 16GB Thumbdrive + Mobile Data Card
I mean, unless you’re putting the data card into the thumbdrive, and then into the earbuds, and then shoving the entire thing into your ear canal.

Come on, folks, this is like shooting fish in a barrel. These almost write themselves:
Today Research In Motion® (RIM) introduced the new professional-grade
Ok, so far so good. Professional-grade, I get it. Probably good solid security and such. They’ll probably call it the SecureTablet or something.

Let's broadcast my credit card info!
So one of my credit cards was reaching its ‘valid thru’ date, and they sent me a new one in the mail. As expected, I needed to call a toll-free number to activate it, as a security measure. Not as expected, their system reads back - in a loud, booming voice that could be heard two doors down the street - every little piece of information that you type into it:
YOU! TYPED!...

Total number of Facetime conversations I’ve seen that weren’t done pretty much exclusively in order to demonstrate Facetime: 0.
Wow, just realized that I’ve hit 100 pages with my Tumblr blog.

“What if, instead of typing a non sequitur, you typed “Just do it,” the Nike slogan? That’s where Solve Media comes in to play. The company, which was created a little less than a year ago, has been working furiously to perfect a security technology that allows advertisers into this space, and they are officially launching today.”

The Motorola Charm, the morning after
Is it perfect? No, not by a mile.
Is it better than the iPhone? In some ways, yes. In others, no way.
Will I go back to the iPhone? Nope.
So it’s been nearly three weeks since I purchased the Charm, and a week since I formally pulled the plug on my iPhone 3GS and moved my life into it (and my phone service to T-Mobile’s unlimited everything plan).
As with every bit of kit, there...

Tech support done right
They should so have engineer-to-engineer tech support lines. I could so solve this crazy Motorola Charm reboot-when-WiFi-is-active thing in about 10 minutes with a good voice chat with Chad or David or whoever is hidden behind third-line support.
Just worked the “In-N-Out Burger Finder” iPhone app into a client presentation.
Update: Just added the link, so everyone else can enjoy the meaty goodness as well.
Why don’t skyscrapers come in colors - real, strong colors like orange or indigo or red?

It's official. I've been (Motorola) Charmed.
Well, on Friday I finally took the plunge, cancelled the AT&T contract, and went over to an Android-powered Motorola Charm on T-Mobile. So far, in honeymoon phase, I’m very happy with the decision.
Here are some of the things I’ve noticed so far, in case they’re interesting to other potential switchers:
Absolutely in love with once again having a decent physical keyboard - heck, I’m writing...

The deappleification is underway
It’s not intentional, I swear, but the de-Apple-ification is in full swing now. My wife just asked me if I wouldn’t mind giving her my iPad, and I agreed. So now I’m down to just the MacBook Pro. Which you’ll have to pry from my cold, dead hands if you want it.

Transparency →
Soon, “transparency” as we know it will bifurcate into “honesty” and “transparency”. Honesty will, cosmos willing, continue to remain an important factor in our dealings with companies and people. Transparency, on the other hand, isn’t inherently good or bad - and soon may disappear, only to be replaced by obscurity, a sense of mystery, a sense of wonder.
